According to BNamericas, Paraguay hopes to emerge as another critical minerals destination attracting the attention of companies and investors.
Mauricio Bejarano, Paraguay’s Deputy Minister of Mines and Energy, said at the second Mining Forum: “Paraguay may be ready to begin developing these natural resources, primarily uranium and titanium, and potentially lithium or rare earth elements in the future.”
Bejarano said President Santiago Peña is pushing to establish a robust regulatory framework, one of the measures Paraguay is pursuing to advance its critical minerals sector.
“We are evaluating with the president himself the possibility of submitting a Mining Law. This would be an entirely new mining regulatory framework based on global best practices, designed to provide safeguards and legal certainty for mining investment in the Republic of Paraguay,” he said.
Paraguay also hopes to follow the example of resource-rich South American countries such as Chile, Peru, Argentina and Brazil, whose mineral resources are attracting increasing international attention as global companies seek to diversify their supply chains.
For Paraguay, the goal is not only to capitalize on strong global investor demand for critical minerals, but also to replicate in the mining sector the investment momentum that other industries have attracted in recent years. This investment appeal has been supported by economic policies widely regarded as favorable to private investors, as well as relatively low energy and labor costs.
