On September 2 (Wednesday), London-listed mining company ACG Metals announced that its Gediktepe mine in Turkey produced its first batch of copper concentrate on August 31, marking the company’s transition from precious metals and zinc production to copper production, with the goal of achieving full production by the end of 2026.
The company said copper concentrate production was completed within budget. Once operations reach a steady state, ACG Metals expects the mine to produce approximately 40,000 tonnes of copper annually.
With global demand for copper continuing to rise, Gediktepe has now entered the production ramp-up phase, with a focus on increasing throughput and optimizing plant performance.
“We are currently focused on a disciplined ramp-up, progressively increasing throughput and recoveries, delivering consistent concentrate quality, and moving toward stable production,” said Artem Volynets, Chairman and CEO of ACG Metals, in a press release.
Located in Balıkesir Province in western Turkey, Gediktepe is an open-pit polymetallic mine. ACG Metals completed its acquisition of the mine in September 2024 and holds a 100% interest in the project.
The mine was previously operated as a single-stream gold, silver and zinc operation. It is now transitioning toward copper production as growing demand for the metal is being driven by artificial intelligence, electrification and other emerging technologies.
