Eldorado Gold Produces First Gold/Copper Concentrate at Skouries Mine in Greece
On September 9 (Wednesday), Eldorado Gold announced that its Skouries mine in Greece had produced its first gold/copper concentrate, marking the transition of the project from the construction phase to commercial production in the fourth quarter.
In July, the company fed its first batch of gold/copper ore into the crushing circuit. Since then, it has been commissioning key processing systems, including the flotation and tailings thickening circuits.
The Skouries ore stockpile currently exceeds 4.6 million tonnes, providing a solid foundation for the plant’s production ramp-up and more than seven months of planned processing throughput.
Over its mine life, Skouries is expected to produce an average of approximately 140,000 ounces of gold and 67 million pounds of copper annually.
“The production of the first gold/copper concentrate at Skouries represents the culmination of many years of development, construction and collaboration, and marks the beginning of a new chapter for the company,” said George Burns, CEO of Eldorado Gold.
“Skouries is not only a transformational asset for the company, but also one of the most significant investment projects in Greece and one of the largest copper/gold projects in Europe.”
Burns added that Skouries is expected to transform Eldorado Gold into a larger and more diversified precious metals and critical minerals producer, with a stronger production base, significant exposure to copper and silver, and enhanced free cash flow generation.
