According to Mining.com, citing Reuters, PT Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara (AMNT) has completed the production ramp-up of its copper smelter and expects to significantly increase refined copper output in 2026. The company is a subsidiary of Amman Mineral Internasional, one of Indonesia’s leading mining companies.
Chief Executive Officer Rachmat Makassau told a parliamentary committee that the company plans to increase copper cathode production from 79,848 tonnes in 2025 to 162,662 tonnes in 2026, effectively doubling annual output.
Smelter Now Processing All Mine Production
Makassau said the copper smelter completed its ramp-up in April after overcoming several leakage incidents that occurred during commissioning last year, which required the facility to restart parts of the commissioning process.
He added that, as of June, the smelter is capable of processing all copper concentrate produced by the company’s mine, eliminating the need to export excess concentrate.
According to the company:
“As of June, we are able to process all of the output from the mine. We are confident that all copper concentrate produced this year can be fully absorbed.”
Higher Production Targets Across Multiple Products
In addition to refined copper, AMNT expects to produce:
- 16,119 kilograms of gold
- 45,439 kilograms of silver
- 572,036 tonnes of sulphuric acid
Sulphuric acid is an important by-product of copper smelting and is widely used in fertilizer production, mineral processing and various industrial applications.
Maintenance Shutdown Planned
Although commercial production has stabilized, the company plans another scheduled shutdown of the smelter in December or January to carry out additional maintenance and repairs aimed at improving long-term operational reliability.
The maintenance is expected to support sustained high utilization as AMNT continues expanding Indonesia’s domestic copper refining capacity and increasing value-added processing within the country.
