Ivanhoe Mines Cuts Near-Term Production Forecast for Kamoa-Kakula Copper Complex

On March 31 (Tuesday), Ivanhoe Mines released an updated independent technical report, lowering near-term production forecasts for its Kamoa-Kakula copper complex in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The report, which supports the company’s long-term expansion plans, revised its 2026 copper production forecast to 290,000–330,000 tonnes of anode copper, while the 2027 outlook was reduced to 380,000–420,000 tonnes.

Kamoa-Kakula is one of the highest-grade major copper projects globally and has become a key source of supply growth in a market facing tightening supply and limited new project development.

Ivanhoe Mines plans to increase annual copper production at the complex to over 500,000 tonnes from 2028 onward.

The updated mineral resource estimate stands at 466 million tonnes of ore grading 2.82% copper, containing approximately 13.1 million tonnes of copper metal.

The company stated that, based on recommendations from the technical report, it has initiated preparations for a new feasibility study, which is expected to be completed within approximately 12 months. Drilling and mapping activities are scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2026.
