On Friday, Capstone Copper said that the largest union at its Mantoverde copper-gold mine in Chile has approved a new three-year labor contract, bringing an end to a strike that began on January 2 and clearing the way for a return to normal operations.
Capstone said that production at the mine had fallen to around 55% of normal levels due to the strike.
The company added that it has now reached new labor agreements with all four unions at the Mantoverde operation, allowing it to fully resume mining and processing activities.
In 2025, the Mantoverde mine produced 62,308 tonnes of copper concentrate and 32,807 tonnes of cathode copper, accounting for approximately 0.4% of global copper output.
Capstone holds a 70% stake in the Mantoverde mine, while Japan’s Mitsubishi Materials owns the remaining 30%.
